In all types of cancer, some of the body\u2019s cells begin to divide without stopping and spread into surrounding tissues.<\/p>\n<p>Cancer can start almost anywhere in the human body, which is made up of trillions of cells. Normally, human cells grow and divide to form new cells as the body needs them. When cells grow old or become damaged, they die, and new cells take their place.<\/p>\n<p>Most of the body\u2019s cells have specific functions and fixed lifespans. While it may sound like a bad thing, cell death is part of a natural and beneficial phenomenon called apoptosis.<\/p>\n<div class=\"css-0\">\n<p>A cell receives instructions to die so that the body can replace it with a newer cell that functions better. Cancerous cells lack the components that instruct them to stop dividing and to die.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, they build up in the body, using oxygen and nutrients that would usually nourish other cells. Cancerous cells can form tumors, impair the immune system, and cause other changes that prevent the body from functioning regularly.<\/p>\n<p>Cancerous cells may appear in one area, then spread via the lymph nodes. These are clusters of immune cells located throughout the body.<\/p>\n<p>When cancer develops, however, this orderly process breaks down. As cells become more and more abnormal, old, or damaged cells survive when they should die, and new cells form when they are not needed.<\/p>\n<section>These extra cells can divide without stopping and may form growths called tumors. Many cancers form solid tumors, which are masses of tissue. Also, as the tumors grow, some cancer cells can break off and travel to distant places in the body through the blood or the lymph system and form new tumors far from the original tumor.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike malignant tumors, benign tumors do not spread into, or invade nearby tissues. Benign tumors can sometimes be quite large, however. This list is expanded below to list more specific types of cancers found in each general category:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h5><em>Carcinoma<\/em><\/h5>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It is a type of cancer that starts in cells that make up the skin or the tissue lining organs, such as the liver or kidneys. Like other types of cancer, carcinomas are abnormal cells that divide without control. They are able to spread to other parts of the body but don\\&#8217;t always.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h5><em>Sarcoma<\/em><\/h5>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A\u00a0sarcoma\u00a0is a\u00a0type of cancer\u00a0that starts in tissues like bone or muscle. It usually affects the leukocytes or white blood cells.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h5><em>Lymphoma<\/em><\/h5>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Lymphoma\u00a0is cancer that begins in infection-fighting cells of the immune system, called lymphocytes. Symptoms such as\u00a0shortness of breath\u00a0or\u00a0chest pain\u00a0may be a sign of a severe (acute) condition, such as\u00a0pneumonia. Reach out to the doctor straight away if you experience these types of symptoms.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h5><em>Bleeding<\/em><\/h5>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You should also see your GP if you have any unexplained bleeding, such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Blood in your urine<\/li>\n<li>Bleeding between periods<\/li>\n<li>Blood from your bottom<\/li>\n<li>Bleeding when you cough<\/li>\n<li>Blood in your vomit<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h5><em>Lump In The Breast<\/em><\/h5>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>See a doctor if you notice a lump in your breast or if you have a lump that\\&#8217;s rapidly increasing in size elsewhere on your body.
