In thyroid function, Iodine is an essential mineral that’s needed to make thyroid hormones. Thus, people with iodine deficiency might be at risk of hypothyroidism. If you have an iodine deficiency, then you must load yourself with dairy products, fish , eggs and sea kelp supplements.

Working some dairy into your diet can be good for your thyroid, but be sure not to consume it in excess. Make sure you choose low fat alternatives and consume the right quantities.

1)Milk

Hypothyroidismand decreased bone mineral density, which can lead to osteoporosis. Vitamin D and calcium both are important for bone health. Choosing low fat milk , skimmed milk or Fortified milk which has added vitamin D, but also significant amounts of calcium, protein, and iodine. 

2)Yoghurt-

The humble curd finds its place in the sun as it is one of the best foods for the thyroid gland.Yoghurt, is very nutritious and helps to fulfil the iodine requirements of the body. Iodine is needed for the optimal working of the thyroid gland.

3)Cheese-

Cheese being a good source of calcium and good fats, it is also a rich source of iodine. Best choices are cheddar and mozzarella

4)Goat cheese

Goat cheese is a fair source of selenium, an essential trace mineral more often found in seafood. Selenium aids your body to break down DNA-damaging peroxides, which can lower your risk of developing conditions like cancer, thyroid disease, and cardiovascular disease. 

5)Pastured butter

Butter has omega-3s, a highly absorbable form of iodine, and vitamin A, which are all crucial for proper thyroid function.You can take about 2-3 teaspoons of butter at each meal. Preparing vegetables and meats in butter is an easy way to get this nutrient-dense fat in your diet.

6)Ice-cream-

Ice-cream contains iodine. However, be mindful of choosing sugar-free ice-creams. You can prepare diet-friendly ice-cream recipes at home and enjoy them. 

Note–  If you’re lactose intolerant, simply you are not able to digest sugar (lactose) in milk so you must not add the above products to your diet. Or you’re allergic to milk products then go plant-based dairy products like almond milk, coconut milk, hemp milk, pea milk, cashew milk etc.

These are the few dairy products to add to your daily date routine. Dairy products contain essential vitamins and minerals like calcium and iodine which are beneficial for health. Too much dairy won’t be helpful for thyroid function. Make sure to take a low to moderate amount of dairy products. Opt for diet-friendly, low-fat products.
